There are pioneers that pave the way. Some of them we gathered in this chapter.

Here you will find detailed portraits of local, community-centered media projects in Europe. In the case studies, we take a closer look at how the projects were founded, what the most important (journalistic) products are, how the organisation finances itself, how the editorial team engages the community, what the biggest challenges and what the biggest success factors are.

Methodology

These newsroom portraits are based on extensive interviews that our team conducted with the respective founders, managing directors or editors-in-chief of the individual organisations. Some of the case studies have been written as a part of the research „Revitalizing Ukrainian Local Media: Research and Recommendations”.
