User journeys

1. Someone with a story

A worker in local health services needs to be reassured that their whistleblowing story can be conveyed to an expert whilst keeping them safe, because they will face reprisals and redundancy if it's associated with them.

Desired outcomes

  • Feel secure, like they are in safe hands

  • Their important story can get out there without worry

Requirements

  • Simple way to identify who to contact

  • Ability to initiate contact securely

  • There is a way to communicate with the source, anonymously if necessary

2. Someone interested in being a member

A person interested in being a member needs to feel valued because they want to offer their useful skills to a nice org and have a few to choose from.

Desired outcomes

  • Feels proud of putting their skills to good use

  • Feels confident that they joined the right org and eager to put their skills to use where relevant

Requirements

  • A listing of ways for them to get involved, e.g. a list of expert circles

  • A clear process on how they can become part of a circle

3. An unengaged member who doesn't know much about the organisation

An unengaged member needs to know how to get involved, why it matters and how they could be useful because they might not see themselves as an expert, or not feel confident in their opinions and the value of their experience

Desired outcomes

  • After getting involved, I felt listened to, helpful, that my contribution was valued, and like I am contributing to something important and worthwhile.

Requirements

4. A highly engaged member

As a member of the Cable I want to know how I can contribute my experience, views, and time because I feel I have a lot to offer and care about my community/these issues/the Cable

Desired outcomes

  • They feel valued

  • Their contribution was meaningful & useful.

  • More connected to the Cable

Requirements

5. A journalist working for the organisation

Journalist needs to know if they are telling the right story and gathering the right information because otherwise their story is irrelevant or incorrect, or not as impactful as it could be.

Desired outcomes

  • Motivated to continue with engaged journalism

  • Engaged with the wider membership

  • Rewarded

  • Confident in the outcome

Requirements

6. A journalist doing research in a particular topic area

A journalist needs to find a source for their upcoming article on a local corruption scandal because time is sensitive and not publishing on time could lead to a loss of confidence in the news outlet. They wonder how to leverage the Cable database/ directory to get info and leads for articles.

Desired outcomes

  • Feel confident in the work put out because it comes from a reputable source

  • Motivated to keep working with this platform

Requirements

  • Can identify members with specific knowledge or expertise

  • Able to contact members or a group of members privately

  • Members are notified that journalist would like their help

7. A member not currently engaging but looking to do so

Engaged members need to know clearly from us what we want from them and why it's important so that they can feed in but feel part of something valuable and that their time and contribution has been valued in the process

Desired outcomes

  • Feel valued, satisfied and excited/inspired by signing up to be part of the collective

  • Feel appreciated and satisfied by interactions with the Cable that lead to them contributing info for a story
