# How to create an open-ended response option
You can set up a response field in your survey so that it only appears when respondents select a specific option.
For example, you can add an *Other* option to multiple-choice questions. When respondents select it, an open text field appears where they can enter their own answer.

Drag and drop a *Radio* element (for single-choice questions) or *Select Boxes* element (for multiple-choice questions) into the designated area.

Enter the question you want to ask your survey respondents in the *Label* field.

Next, click the *Data* tab. Under *Label*, enter the answer options you want to provide. For the answer option that should display an additional response field, enter any letter in the *Value* field. Then click *Save*.

**Tip:** You can add a colon after the answer option that includes an additional response field. This helps respondents recognize that selecting this option will reveal an extra input field.

Choose the response format that should appear when respondents select the corresponding answer, and drag it below the question box.

Enter the title for your text field in the *Label* field. Then open the *Conditional* tab. Under *This component should Display*, select *True*. Next, under *When the form component*, choose the corresponding question. In *Has the value*, enter the letter you assigned to the answer option. Finally, click *Save*.
