# Größte Herausforderungen

Als Medienorganisation, die nicht so einfach in die üblichen Kategorien passt, hat Mensagem Probleme, sich als gemeinnützige Organisation zu positionieren, was es schwierig macht, Geld von Stiftungen zu bekommen, die gemeinnützige Projekte unterstützen. Journalismus wird oft als politisch und gewinnorientiert gesehen, was es für Mensagem noch schwerer macht, Unterstützung zu finden.

Außerdem gibt es in der aktuellen polarisierten Lage in Portugal zusätzliche Herausforderungen für kleine Medienunternehmen.

Da Mensagem tief in der Gemeinde verwurzelt ist, muss sie jeden Tag darauf achten, klar zwischen Journalismus und Aktivismus zu unterscheiden.

Carvalho sieht immer noch großes Potenzial in einem eigenen Café, um eine Gemeinschaft aufzubauen. Das Café, in dem sie jetzt sind, ist aber eher auf Touristen ausgerichtet und lässt ihnen nicht genug Platz, um einen eigenen Raum zu schaffen, der das Gemeinschaftsgefühl fördert, das sie sich vorstellt.
