# Gathering Opinions

Collecting opinions is simple and quick to implement. When reporting on a current or exciting topic, you can easily involve your community by specifically asking for their assessment. This can be done, for example, through short polls – such as asking whether e-scooters should be banned from the city or whether stricter regulations for strip clubs should be introduced.

While yes-or-no questions do not provide in-depth insights, they allow you to produce content, activate the community, and give people a chance to express their opinions with minimal effort. Additionally, an open text field can be useful for participants to explain their reasoning. These statements can later be used effectively as quotes in reporting.

**Tip:** Ask in the survey whether participants’ explanations can be published with their name or anonymously. This saves you from having to conduct additional approvals later.
{% endhint %}

It is also worthwhile to embed short surveys directly in newsletters or articles. Many survey tools offer simple solutions for this. This way, readers stay engaged with the content and are not redirected to external sites.

#### **Opinion polls in the CORRECTIV Spotlight newsletter**

CORRECTIV regularly integrates opinion polls into the daily “Spotlight” newsletter. In addition to simple yes/no questions, open-ended questions and follow-up questions on specific political proposals are also used. This makes the exchange significantly more constructive and diverse.

Here are two example surveys:

> **Fireworks ban or not?**
>
> * Are you in favor of a general ban on private New Year’s fireworks? (Yes / No / Undecided)
> * Which of the following proposals do you support?\
> \[] More fireworks-free zones\
> \[] More central public fireworks displays\
> \[] Designated areas for private fireworks
> * What else would you like to tell us about this topic? (open text field)

> **What do you think about the “Boomer-Soli”?**
>
> * How do you feel about the proposal for a “Boomer-Soli”? (Good / Rather good / I don’t know / Rather bad / Bad)
> * Do you consider the pension system in Germany generally fair? (Yes / Rather yes / I don’t know / Rather no / No)
> * Where do you see the biggest problem in the pension system? What worries you the most? (open text field)
